Bliss Bakers & Confectioners (Miyapur X Roads, Hyderabad)

In Short:
'Bliss' was the call made by a friend of mine when a group of 5 including me were yearning for an evening snack at Miyapur in Hyderabad. He highlighted the fact that the Chicken Momo's at Bliss (Bakery, Chineese food, Confectionery) would be a perfect snack for the evening. After a lot of dodging and serious pondering, we entered 'Bliss Bakers & Confectioners. What followed was a 'Bliss'ful evening.

Bliss Bakers & Confectioners at Miyapur X Roads

Full Review:
Bliss Bakers & Confectioners was our final destination on a drizzly evening as we gave in to the desire to have some delicious Momo's which was veraciously backed by a friend in the group. We also wanted to have some private space for ourselves to sit down, talk and eat. I should also acknowledge that we haven't met under the best of circumstances but the evening progressed into a blissful night.

The first thing we noticed as we walked into 'Bliss' was that the proprietors were all in into social media and the wonders it can do to their business. Being a very engaging social media fan myself, my eyes went right to a promotion which said - Tag a Friend on Facebook and GET A FREE COKE.

We went ahead and tagged more than just one friend on Facebook and were given a Free Coke as part of the promotion.

The next thing to do was to order a few drinks and the Momo's.

Free Coke with every tagged Friend !!

The space in the bakery was inviting. Beautifully designed interiors and the colorful chairs were beckoning us to take a seat and relax. The owners at Bliss got their interiors right with a reasonable partition in the seating space to make the experience of eating out that much more private. Something that we do not see at many bakeries and even some family friendly restaurants.

The seating space was inviting and look at the huge walking space

The colorful chairs were comfortable as well.

We loved the partitions between seating at Bliss.

Once you pay for the food at the counter, you receive a number for the table you will be sitting at. Our's was Number 5. This novel way of identifying customers at the tables was pleasantly new to me. No more yelling names and playing 'match the food with the customer' game.

The Back along with a quote from Julia Child

And finally! The Steamed Chicken Momo's arrived at our table. At the center of the well arranged Momo's was the Hot Garlic Sauce. It was time to dig into the Momo's and check if they would be able to live up to the expectations which was getting higher with each passing minute. The plate of Steamed Chicken Dim Sum (Momo's) was priced at Rs 120 and it simply tasted awesome. The delicious yet delicate Momo's slithered down everyone's throat with ease.

The Hot Garlic Sauce

Once we were done with the Momo's, we resumed our banter. A short while had passed when this guy suddenly pops in to whisk away the empty cola bottles and begins to clean our table. All this while we were still at the table feeling rather relaxed. This practice is followed at most restaurants to subtly pass on the message to the customer who has finished his food and has been sitting a little longer than usual that it is now time to leave or order something new.

The Momo's although were delicious, we still had room for some more. Sharon took us on a treat to some Chicken Puffs this time. They too tasted alright and were aptly priced at Rs 20 each.

Chicken Puffs @ Rs 20 each at Bliss Bakers & Confectioners

After finishing the Hot Chicken Puffs, it was time for us to make a move.

While we could not taste everything on the menu except for their Chicken Momo's and Puffs, we could see that the business is beginning to bustle at this place. The owners really take ownership of the products sold here with utmost seriousness. Almost every item in the display had a twist to it. It looks like they have subjected all of their products to a hint of Bliss. The customer is given the priority like it always should be unlike most other places where it is not so - sadly!. The pricing of their products is practically very reasonable too.

The cakes in the display were competitively priced and well decorated. Biscuits, Puffs, Tarts, Pastries were amazing to look at through the glass display. (See Photo Gallery)

Bliss Bakers & Confectioners also has a website which you can look up on Google. I personally wish that Bliss Bakers would open a branch close to where I live. The present location is not ideal for me to visit every time I feel the need for a bite. Look up their Facebook page too and you can keep in check with their latest offers. This is one very socially active bakery that I have seen in the city of Hyderabad.

We believe that this could very well be 'the destination' for the younger folk who frequent Miyapur.

Stay tuned for more from this Baker as and when we visit them.

'Haleem' at Y2K Restaurant (Hyderabad)

Haleem - A Middle Eastern Delight.
Haleem or Hyderabadi Haleem is a very popular dish which is available in most parts of Hyderabad and Secunderabad during this time of the year. Some like it and some others don't. But Hyderabadis have fallen for it so much so that this dish is made available to its citizens all year round at select outlets.

A Plate of Mutton Haleem at Y2K Restaurant priced at Rs 100.

This outlet was open even at 12 AM but served us a moderately warm Mutton Haleem. Haleem is usually served hot. It was quite surprising that this hotel had quite a few customers very late into the night.

Customers at the outlet can be spotted at 12 AM

It should also be noted that the restaurant also serves Chicken Haleem which is priced at Rs 70. Since this was the season for Haleem, we also went ahead and had Harees as well the previous day. Here is the video of Food Mantri at the Harees outlet.

'Harees' at Hotel Al-Shafa (Panjagutta, Hyderabad)

Harees - A Nizami Delight
We visited Hotel Al-Shafa at Panjagutta in Hyderabad just like we always do every year to taste their 'Harees'. A plate of Harees at this hotel is priced at Rs 50 and is served really hot. The slight monsoon drizzle and a hot bowl of Harees on the side made for a perfect evening.

A plate of Harees is available at Rs 50/-

Nako's Express (Food World Street, Ameerpet, Hyderabad)

In Short:
Food Mantri has been tracking the progress at Nako's Express well before they opened the doors for their patrons. We wanted to visit Nako's Express and experience the Mexican flavors that were being advertised. After experiencing the food and service at Nako's Express, we felt that the preparation of food could have been done with a tad more of enthusiasm. Unfortunately, we are told that 'Nako's Express' has suspended its operations at this location and we have not been able to visit it for another time.

Nako's Express at Ameerpet

Full Review:
Tucked away in a quiet alley of Ameerpet is a startup food joint “NAKO's EXPRESS”, first look, looks like an ice cream parlor from the outside and boasts that its WiFi enabled. As we entered, we noticed that it was themed to Mexican and cowboy style with eccentrically placed roman helmets and English lady hats like a square peg, the feel and look was promising and we soon took our table which were a little small and a little uncomfortable (obvious that they want you to eat and get out, not spend chit chatting for an hour over a ½ vegetable soup ).

Seating outside Nako's Express

The Hats & Roman Helmets that caught our fancy

The menu was a little disappointment, though it had a “NAKO's Special” category, there was nothing special and after a few minutes of sensible scanning, we decide to go for  ½ Chicken Corn Soup and 1 Mexican Chicken Fried Rice.

MENU at Nako's Express

After a wait for about 5 minutes the Soup arrived, first reaction, what is this, aesthetically, I would give the soup 0/100, its all plaint transparent with white chicken meat strands and a countable number of sweet corn pods, my hand hits the spoon and the soup hits my tongue,  first reactions for taste, bland. I asked for some pepper and salt only to get just white pepper which was so mild that it didn't help even after adding 2 full spoons.

Chicken Corn Soup

Even before we finished the soup the Mexican Chicken Fried Rice arrived at our table and the waiter somehow dumped everything on the table which was a little small and we had to maneuver our soup bowls to accommodate everything on the table.

Mexican Chicken Fried Rice

We finished with the soup and here comes the rice into the apple shaped plate with a provision for a dip sauce  which I think is inappropriate for eating rice and noodles. The only colors visible in the rice was white and green, nothing to be amused, first morsel and it’s a thumbs down, 1- It's not Mexican ( not one ingredient synonymous to Mexican was in the food), 2 - It was tasteless and no amount of white pepper helped, we were given some garlic sauce on request which was nothing but crushed garlic in sweet tomato sauce - not good for a start up food joint (authenticity matters), 3 - There was more unborn chicken (Egg)  than the actual chicken in it, we could count the number of chicken pieces (chicken bits would be the appropriate word) in the plate. They did not serve water (A Supreme Court ruling makes it mandatory for all eateries to serve its patrons free drinking water in India.) and we had to purchase bottled water after our meal, a 10 rupee generous tip from us did help us in getting a few more pics of the place without any objection.

A view of the outside from our table inside Nako's Express

We are finally done!

We spent Rs 220 for 1 Chicken Corn Soup, 1 Mexican Chicken Fried Rice, and 1 Water Bottle. I think, considering the taste, the presentation, and taking some other things (we couldn't connect to the WiFi) into consideration the price should have been somewhere near 150 – 160 INR.
